Berbara 523
Designed: 2010 Built: 2011 Location: Berbara, Lebanon
This residence sits on one of the cliffs of Berbara village, overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Made up of four units -the main parental residence, the kids' entertainment "barn", the music space, and the guard house- are linearly situated to expose the main functions to the magnificent view, leaving the service spaces tucked inland towards the village. The parental block and entertainment barn are tied together with a social outdoor space and circulation artery and extend outdoors towards the cliff through wood decks, with one of them culminating into the pool.
The materials, a fusion between wood and giallo finito stone cladding, are carefully disposed to highlight the different volumes and their functions, against the green backdrop. Inside, the stone and wood materials, sit on a concrete and grey slate floor finishes. In the main residence, the central space overlooking the sea, is a double height volume sitting underneath the upper four bedrooms which overlook it. A double height media unit located in the main space separates it from the service hallway behind it, and continues upward to do the same with the bedroom cluster above and the hallway connecting them.
