Joy Kanaan is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a degree in architecture and a minor in urban planning.  After working for several years in Los Angeles and New York on large scale projects for DMJM and Haines Lundberg Whaeler, she founded joy kanaan architects in Lebanon, in 2003, working on both residential and cultural projects.  The office carries out both architecture and interiors projects. Her work has been featured in several publications such as The Daily Star, Deco, Fabrics & Architecture, and L’Orient Le Jour.   In addition to the practice, she is a part-time lecturer at the American University of Beirut and The Lebanese American University, where she teaches design studios focusing on architectural and industrial heritage. She is currently a board member of the ACA –Arab Center for Architecture- as well as an associate member of the American Institute of Architects in the USA.  She is also a professional member of the Order of Engineers and Architects in Tripoli.
