Hannam Housing

Designed: 1998           Built: 1998        Location: Seoul, South Korea

These series of proposed strategies for a mixed-use urban development in Hannam -while working for the offices of Daniel Mann Johnson & Mendenhall- were eventually narrowed down to a selected option. It was applied as a masterplan for that area.

A housing project that would occupy an irregularly shaped site of approximately 137,000 square meters in size with a sloping terrain encompassing a vertical height og approximately 62 meters. The site is to the southeast of Namsan and is bordered by Hannam Highway to the west and Dok-Seo Dang Road to the southeast.

Site zoning is divided into two areas. Zoning requirements for the upper zone or scenic zone allow buildings of a maximum height of three stories. In the lower zone the three story height limit does not apply allowing for a high-rise development area.
